Our bottling plant in Poland Spring employs about 350 full-time and seasonal people here in Androscoggin County. People who work at our plant come from many nearby towns including Lewiston, Auburn, Bridgton, Casco, Naples, Canton, Dixfield, Gardiner, Litchfield, Monmouth, Gray, New Gloucester, Harrison, Otisfield, Minot, Mechanic Falls, Sabbatus, Norway, South Paris, Oxford, Poland, Portland, Turner, Buckfield and others.
Poland Spring is firmly committed to what we call our Good Neighbor Policy, a set of 10 principles that help us define how we can take an active and positive role in the municipalities we call home:
1. Open communication
2. Environmental Excellence
3. Responsible Spring Water Resource Management
4. Water Resource Relations
5. Sustainable Land Use
6. Traffic Mitigation
7. Exemplary Employee Practices
8. Water Education
9. Emergency Relief
10. Giving Back
Each of the above 10 points is critical to our mission of bringing value to Maine and our communities, while prospering as a Maine business. We strive to excel in each area.
Poland Spring is committed to doing our part to make Maine a better place to live and work through our community involvement, engagement, and environmental stewardship. Since 2000, Poland Spring has given over $2.5 million dollars to local Maine communities and causes, including:
- Conservation with The Nature Conservancy and the Trust for Public Land – Poland Spring made donations to support the Penobscot River Restoration and to preserve Katahdin Lake and the Saco River Indian Cellar.
- Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) – Poland Spring supports this award-winning, nonprofit water education program which promotes awareness, appreciation, knowledge, and stewardship of water resources through classroom-ready teaching aids and internationally sponsored programs, including community water education events for Maine kids.
- Gulf of Maine Research Institute – Poland Spring provides major funding that enables middle school children from every community in Maine to travel to a working marine research facility to learn about natural resources in the Gulf of Maine.
Recent expansions to our facility have received a Silver rating from the U.S Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification. LEED standards help increase energy and water efficiency, and reduce the environmental impact of our facilities. Improvements over standard construction include improved site water management and indoor air quality; reduced construction waste; use of local and recycled construction material, as well as indigenous landscaping; and water and energy conservation features.
