Poland Spring Works for Maine
Poland Spring’s Environmental Stewardship

As a Maine-based company operating in the state since 1845, Poland Spring believes each spring water source should be healthy and productive for generations to come. We continuously monitor our spring sources and work closely with our host communities to ensure water resources are sustainable for the long term. The health of the aquifer and the local environment is paramount to us.

It all begins with selecting a viable spring water source that will be stable, abundant and yield high-quality, great-tasting water. We use sophisticated science to perform a detailed spring site assessment. As with any spring source, Poland Spring develops a thorough understanding of the spring’s flow rate and capacity; the area of the aquifer; its thickness and composition; the size of the recharge area and the average rate of recharge; water quality; mineral content; and other characteristics.

We make certain our water use will have no significant impact on the environment, our neighbors, their wells, or nearby water sources. At each spring site, meters are installed to measure water withdrawals and ensure Poland Spring is staying within sustainable, permitted levels. State and local officials, independent scientists and water experts monitor Poland Spring’s water use and regulators have the right to reduce or halt water withdrawal to protect the local watershed from harm at any time.

Poland Spring is also protecting land near our spring sites to ensure the long term health and sustainability of the aquifers and the surrounding environment. Most of these lands are open for public use. Poland Spring is proud to be an environmental leader and will continue to work with Maine communities to sustain the state’s renewable water resources and protect the environment.
